Tiers and How I Got a Battering Ram

Oh the skill tiers!

There's been some vocal complaining about the new skill tiers in the latest Beta Weekend Event. It boils down to this:

  • People don't like being forced to "waste" skill points on skills they don't want. They feel forced to choose a random skill to unlock the next tier.
  • People want a "respec" in case they didn't really like the skills they chose.

Both points are valid, no one wants to play something they don't like. However, they need to realize that eventually they will have all of those skills. And not being given everything immediately makes a game fun. And (this is a big plus) it makes the game more like the original Guild Wars. You actually have to go skill hunting.

The skill hunting isn't the same sense as the first one where you have to find the right boss and take one of his skills. But it's the same feel. You need to go find some skill points and accomplish something to gather the skills you want.

This beta weekend I made it up to level 21 so I had a lot more points to work with. To unlock the second tier I picked up the Personal Battering Ram. It's a pretty funny little gadget. Here's a peek:
